Infrastructure and Facilities

The Fɛlei TechCity will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure designed to support the needs of modern tech companies and startups. Key components of the infrastructure will include:

  • Innovation Hubs: Spaces dedicated to fostering creativity and collaboration, equipped with high-speed internet, co-working spaces, and advanced technological tools.
  • Data Centres: Secure, climate-controlled facilities for data storage and processing, supporting both local and international businesses.
  • Research and Development (R&D) Facilities: Cutting-edge labs and research centres focused on emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and blockchain.
  • Incubation and Acceleration Centres: Dedicated spaces for nurturing early-stage start-ups, offering mentorship, business development support, and access to funding.
  • Residential and Commercial Spaces: Integrated living and working environments that provide housing for employees and executives, as well as retail and leisure facilities.

Innovation and Technological Advancement

The Fɛlei TechCity will host a variety of programs aimed at fostering innovation and supporting the growth of the digital ecosystem:

  • Innovation Challenges and Hackathons: Regular competitions to encourage the development of new technologies and solutions to local and global challenges.
  • Incubation Programs: Structured programs providing start-ups with mentorship, resources, and access to markets, helping them to scale and succeed.
  • Partnerships with Global Tech Firms: Collaboration with leading tech companies to provide training, resources, and market access for local start-ups.
  • Research Grants and Funding: Access to grants and funding opportunities for innovative projects and start-ups, supported by both the government and private investors.

Employment and Economic Impact

The Fɛlei TechCity is expected to be a significant driver of job creation in Sierra Leone, with an estimated 30,000 direct jobs to be created across various sectors. These jobs will span a range of skill levels, from entry-level positions in tech support and data processing to high-level roles in software development, research, and management. Additionally, the Techcity is expected to generate a further 20,000 indirect jobs through the growth of ancillary industries and services.

The Techcity is projected to contribute an estimated 510% to Sierra Leone’s GDP over the next five years, significantly boosting the country’s economic diversification efforts. By reducing reliance on traditional sectors and fostering growth in the digital economy, the Techcity will help to build a more resilient and dynamic economy. The increased economic activity generated by the Techcity will also lead to greater tax revenues, improved public services, and enhanced living standards for the wider population.

Funding and Investment Opportunities

The development of the Fɛlei TechCity will require significant investment in infrastructure, facilities, and human capital. Initial investment requirements are estimated at $150 million, which will cover:

  • Infrastructure Development: Construction of innovation hubs, data centres, R&D facilities, and residential/commercial spaces.
  • Technology and Equipment: Procurement of advanced technology and equipment for research, data processing, and business operations.
  • Talent Development: Investment in training programs, mentorship, and education to build a skilled workforce.
  • Operational Costs: Initial operational costs, including staffing, utilities, and maintenance.
